As mentioned above, the reason your shingles are darker than they were when first installed is because there is an algea growing on them.This algea is called Gloeocapsa Magma, and feeds on the crushed limestones shingle manufacturers started using in the 80's as a filler in their shingles. You can easily tell if you have this algea on your roof by simply looking at the roof, it shows up as a brown or black stain on the shingles. It can either be in streaks, or, as in a lot of roofs in Louisiana, it has covered the entire roof. Look at a side that has vents on it, do you notice the lighter color streak running down from the vents ? That is the original color of your roof. With the proven method we use, we can return your entire roof to that color. So your roof can look new again at a fraction of the cost of replacing it. The reasons for cleaning it are not just cosmetic either, as this fungus roots itself into your shingles, it helps loosen the granules that protect the asphalt layer of your shingles from the UV rays of the sun. As the rain then washes them away, you lose valuable years off the life of your shingles. Below is just one example of a before and after. Why Have I Never Heard of Roof Washing ?

The fact is that not many people offer this service here in Louisiana. People just seem to be under the impression that this fungus can't be removed and is just a result of age on the shingles. This couldnt be further from the truth. Shingle manufacturers warranty their shingles for 30 years, but only give a 5 year algea resistance warranty, that means you could live with a dirty looking roof for 25 years. Will Washing the Roof Damage my Shingles ?

Absolutely not. We use a chemical method that is recommended by the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers of America. The entire process is applied at pressures no greater than that of your water hose. Have you ever seen someone pressure washing a roof to clean it ? Even if you don't hire us to clean your roof, you should never, ever, ever, ever pressure wash your roof. Pressures greater than 100 psi will do extreme damage to shingles, and most pressure washers operate at pressures way above that. As stated above, we use only chemicals recommened by the ARMA to not harm your shingles.
